Once you have decided upon what room might suit the addition of a stool you must apply your mind to what type of bar stool you might like. There are many different styles and designs to choose from. Your choice of stool will depend entirely on the decor of the room in which it is intended to be placed and upon your own personal tastes. You will also want to consider who might be sitting in the stool and the durability of the same.
Why are these heights chosen? Firstly, an average height American will be able to consume a quick snack, either standing by, or sitting up on the kitchen stool with such chosen height of a stool and a bar top. Secondly, it will be possible to prepare breakfast food or drinks on a bar top, even though the 40 inch surface height is a bit high for that purpose. Usually, the food can be prepared from the one side of the bar top while consumed from the other.
To ideally match the bar stools with the current decor of your home answer these questions: In what room do you want to place the stools? What are the colors of the walls in the room? What is the style of the furniture in the room? Contemporary, Antique, Rustic, Modern, Art Deco? In what part of the room do you want to place the stools? In the corner, in the middle or at the wall? Keep answers to the questions in mind when shopping and you’ll surely get bar stools that perfectly match the style of your current decor.
A 30 inch stool size is the most practical seat height for home use, given its versatility. A 30 inch stool height is designed primarily for bars and counters that are 40-45 inches tall. This seat height works great as pub stools in your home bar, billiard room and game room, as they add ambiance and atmosphere to your activity area, while providing a spot to sit and spectate or wait for your next turn. This stool size also works well for garage work and repairs at a tool bench or workshop. A 34 inch height does exist, but is a custom made size. Typically, there is no specific use for this stool size unless you have a bar with a height of 46 inches. If not, then practical purposes for this particular stool height are quite uncommon.
