The last feature that you may want your bar stools to have is a back rest. Back support is ideal for homes with children to ensure they have proper support and do not accidentally fall off when seated. A stool with a back rest may also feel more comfortable and natural for most as the majority of people are already accustomed to sitting in chairs with back support. Contrarily, backless bar stools are more traditional in appearance and the staple for typical bar seating that you might find at a restaurant or a pub. They also encourage correct posture by forcing you to sit up right while aligning your spine. The option for a back ultimately comes down to comfort and what you are most familiar with.
There are four main sizes of bar stools, and you will need to consider this when purchasing them, they are based on the height of the seat. You can purchase counter top bar stools which are the shortest of the bar stools and are the height of an average kitchen work top. Next are the bar stool height, these are designed for bars so they are slightly higher. The next bar stool is often referred to as a bistro stool, these are very popular for patio areas and the last stool is known as a hybrid. The hybrid stools are adjustable, you can move them up and down to suit your needs these are often gas lift bar stools. Whichever bar stool you decide to purchase it will look fantastic in your home, they are timeless and classic pieces of furniture.
Typical adjustable height counter stool will readily adjust between the counter height of about 24 – 25 inches to 29 – 32 inches or so bar height. This will allow a stool like that to be used at the bar top, as well as at the counter top, which will add to its choices. While the bar stools and the counter stools are available in both metal or chrome or wood finish, an adjustable height stool is usually only available in the chrome finish or a stainless steel finish as these are the only ways the single foot of a stool can be made height adjustable. That single foot contains a pneumatic mechanism that uses compressed air to lift the seat surface upward and uses the person’s own weight to lower the stool surface downward.
A 30 inch stool size is the most practical seat height for home use, given its versatility. A 30 inch stool height is designed primarily for bars and counters that are 40-45 inches tall. This seat height works great as pub stools in your home bar, billiard room and game room, as they add ambiance and atmosphere to your activity area, while providing a spot to sit and spectate or wait for your next turn. This stool size also works well for garage work and repairs at a tool bench or workshop. A 34 inch height does exist, but is a custom made size. Typically, there is no specific use for this stool size unless you have a bar with a height of 46 inches. If not, then practical purposes for this particular stool height are quite uncommon.
