Wood Bar Stools: Wood bar stools are typically offered in a few stains or painted colors. Look for chip-resistant finishes and/or stains which are sealed to protect the wood as well as the underlying finish. Look for metal protectors on the foot-rest as any painted or finished wood subject to the wear and tear of people’s feet will wear through over time. Many manufacturers intentionally distress their finishes to provide a used or worn look. Some more expensive wood bar stools feature rich, multi-step finishes that can be custom matched to you particular needs. Metal Bar Stools: Metal bar stools are often available in dozens of finishes. Look for a powder-coated and baked on finish. These finishes are by far more chip and scratch resistant than ”spray painted” finishes. In addition to a more durable surface a powder coated finish is much less likely to be damaged by cleaning products than a painted finish.
But what height of the stool to pick? There are basically three possibilities in the marketplace today that we will describe: A Full Height Stool, A Counter Stool Proper, and An Adjustable Height Stool. Let’s check them out. These are typically 29 – 32 inches high. They will fit a bar top that is typically between 40 and 42 inches high to accommodate eating a quick bite or sipping a quick drink, either at breakfast time when you are in a rush to get to work, or when you are ready for a quick snack during the day.
